The Kennedy Sconce
Phoenix Day Lighting

Robert Frear Architects

While working on a private residence in Hillsborough, California, we hit a wall in trying to find the right sconce for the Entry Hall.  We found the ideal lantern from Vaughan Lighting, and the client gave us the go ahead to create a custom pair of sconces to coordinate.  Phenix Day Lighting (San Francisco) worked with us to build the fixtures. During the process, they came to admire them so much, they added them to their own line.

Bocci Chandelier

After months of talk about the appropriate chandelier for the new Entry Hall Stair, I presented the client with literature by Bocci, and the sketches that can be seen in the slide show.  They were sold in an instant.  After custom designing the fixture with Bocci, we built a full scale model using string and styrofoam balls to precisely measure how long each pendant should be.  The outcome was absolutely stunning.

Breakfast Room Table

After a frustrating search to find the right table for the Breakfast Room, we decided to design it in-house.  A transitional space within the project, the room called for something classic and sophisticated, while the client wanted to push as modern as possible.  This was the result.

Powder Room Vanity

Robert Frear Architects

RFA was hired to "update and decorate" this particular home.  There were no major items to be tackled, and not a lot of construction.  We designed a few furniture pieces, reupholstered items throughout the home, repainted and papered, changed out hardware, and traded a few light fixtures.  After trying to find the right "antique" piece to drop a sink into, we opted to design our own vanity.  The idea was for it to look more like a piece of furniture, and less like a built-in cabinet.

Private Entry Gates

Robert Frear Architects

Through the duration of this project, privacy was a constant and growing concern.  Everyone in town was so interested in the construcion, that the client called for new gates that gave full visual privacy from the street.  We worked through the design process with the client, and I worked directly with the metalworker to specify the parts and pieces, as well as the function of the locks, etc.
